Who We Are
Eclipse Metal Roofing is a Los Angeles metal roofing company focused on metal roofs for homes, with standing seam as our specialty. We also install corrugated metal roofing and metal roofing that imitates shake, tile or slate. We do not do commercial work under this name. Our fabrication shop is in Van Nuys, where we roll-form panels and bend trim for every job. Our crew installs everything we sell. No subcontractors, ever.
The company is licensed by the California Contractors State License Board under license #888710. The license is held by Eclipse Remodeling & Roofing Inc, doing business as Eclipse Metal Roofing. The owner, Uldi Zadok, has run the company since it started in 2006.
You can read more about the company on our main site's about page, or on our about page here.
How to Choose a Metal Roofing Contractor: What to Check
Whoever you hire, these are the questions worth asking. They are the same ones we would ask if we were hiring a roofer for our own homes.
1. Is the License Active, and Does It Cover Roofing?
Every contractor in California doing work over a small dollar threshold must be licensed. Look the license number up on the CSLB license check. Make sure it is active, that the name matches the company on your contract, and that it lists the roofing classification (C-39). Ours is #888710.
2. Who Will Actually Be on the Roof?
Many roofing companies sell the job and pass it to a subcontractor. That is legal, but it means the people installing your roof may never have met the person who measured it. Ask directly. Our answer is our own crew, every time.
3. Where Do the Panels Come From?
Standing seam panels are either formed by the contractor or bought in from a supplier. Forming in-house lets a contractor make each panel the exact length of your roof and match trim to the panels. Ask whether the long runs on your roof will be single panels or lapped.
4. What Exactly Is in the Scope?
A good written scope names the panel profile and seam type, the metal and gauge, the finish, the underlayment, how edges, valleys and penetrations are flashed, whether the old roof comes off, and how deck repair is handled. If two bids do not describe the same roof, they cannot be compared on price.
5. Who Pulls the Permit?
In the City of Los Angeles, a re-roof needs a permit from the Department of Building and Safety and an inspection. Your contractor should pull it. We do on every job.
6. Ask for Proof of Insurance
Ask any contractor for current certificates of liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage, and check that the names and dates match. The CSLB license record also shows workers' compensation information.
7. What Warranties Apply, and From Whom?
There are usually two: the manufacturer's warranty on the panel finish, and the contractor's warranty on workmanship. Ask for both in writing and read who stands behind each one.
8. Do They Know the Local Rules?
In Brentwood that means the Los Angeles cool roof requirement, the Class A requirement in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and LADBS permitting. A contractor who raises these at the estimate, before you ask, has done this before.
Comparing Two Metal Roofing Bids
Bids for a standing seam roof can look very different, even for the same house. Before comparing the totals, line them up item by item:
| Item | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Panel | Snap-lock or mechanically seamed, panel width, seam height, and whether long runs are one piece or lapped. |
| Metal and gauge | Galvalume steel or aluminum, and the gauge. Lower numbers mean thicker metal. |
| Finish | The paint system (PVDF or other), the exact color, and whether it meets the Los Angeles cool roof requirement. |
| Underlayment | A named high-temperature product, and in a fire hazard zone, how the assembly reaches Class A. |
| Tear-off and deck | Whether the old roof comes off, and how damaged decking is found, priced and replaced. |
| Flashings and trim | Valleys, walls, chimneys, skylights and pipes, and whether trim is formed to match the panels. |
| Permit and inspection | Who pulls the LADBS permit and who meets the inspector. |
| Who installs | The contractor's own crew or a subcontractor. |
A lower number that leaves out tear-off, names no underlayment or skips trim is not the same roof. When the scopes match, the comparison becomes fair.
California Rules That Protect You
California's home improvement rules apply to a roofing contract, whoever you hire. Two are worth knowing:
- Down payments are capped. For most home improvement contracts, the down payment can be no more than 10 percent of the contract price or $1,000, whichever is less.
- You have time to change your mind. If you sign a home improvement contract in your home, you generally have three business days to cancel.
The CSLB publishes plain-language guides for homeowners on its website. A contractor who explains these rules up front is one who expects to follow them.
What a Good Estimate Visit Looks Like
An estimate for a standing seam roof should take some time. Expect the contractor to get on the roof or measure it accurately, check the pitch of each plane, look at chimneys, skylights and vents, and look at the attic if there are signs of leaks. They should ask what you want from the new roof, whether that is a color, a look, a fire concern or solar later on. And they should leave you with a written scope, or send one shortly after. If a bid arrives without anyone having looked closely at the roof, treat the number with caution.
How We Run a Job Near Brentwood
- VisitWe measure every plane, check pitch, flashings and access, and look up your parcel's fire zone.
- ScopeYou get a written scope and price, with the panel, finish and underlayment named.
- FabricatePanels and trim are formed in Van Nuys to your roof's measurements.
- InstallOur crew tears off, dries in, installs and calls for the LADBS inspection.
Our shop in Van Nuys is on the other side of the Sepulveda Pass from Brentwood, so getting panels and crew to a Brentwood job is a short trip on the 405. That matters on a long job and when a measurement needs a quick remake.
